Commisioned by Lantis, we brought the Oosterweel project to life through an immersive 3D web experience. Designed to address local residents' concerns, it offers a realistic, home-view perspective of the R1-North construction process.
The visualization covers three key phases: building the temporary ring road, demolishing the old one to construct new tunnels, and transforming the area with greenery and open spaces. By making complex infrastructure projects more tangible, Far Far Away enhances transparency and community engagement.
Our team used cutting-edge technology to design an interactive 3D map that provided a user-friendly, accessible and awe-inspiring experience. This project offered residents an innovative way to virtually walk through the environment, switch between different situations and even zoom in.
Users could explore the project on their own, improving their attention, memory and understanding of complex 3D spatial environments. We went a step further by offering street-level views.
This allowed residents to view the project from their own front yard and explore the view in different situations. By exploring the streetscape, residents were able to fully understand the transformation their surroundings would undergo during each construction phase.
The project was a great success. We delivered a state-of-the-art 3D web simulation of the three phases of the Oosterweel project. The 3D environment could be independently explored by users, allowing them to “switch” between the three construction phases.
In addition, they could zoom in on certain predetermined points and look through a 360-degree environment, which also allowed them to “switch” between the three phases.
The user-friendly interface, high-definition 3D graphics and the ability to interact with the 3D models made it possible for residents to truly imagine the coming changes in their surroundings.
The project transformed community perception by offering a realistic, interactive view of the construction, addressing concerns and highlighting future improvements. Residents felt more involved, shifting from spectators to active participants in shaping their environment.
It set a new standard for transparency in urban development, proving that technology and community engagement can go hand in hand. At Far Far Away, we continue to harness 3D technology to enhance understanding, foster engagement, and bridge the gap between urban development and communities.
