Exploring AI
with Technopolis

Technopolis, the Flemish Science Center, is renowned for making science and technology accessible and exciting.

For their temporary exhibition on artificial intelligence, Far Far Away helped them in creating an experience that not only educated visitors on AI but also engaged them in
its history, concepts, pitfalls, and opportunities.

Our approach

Far Far Away worked closely with Technopolis to design and develop two interactive installations that showcased AI’s possibilities and limitations.

Our expertise in creating immersive digital experiences allowed us to bring complex technological concepts to life in an accessible and engaging manner. By combining cutting-edge tools like Leap Motion and Stable Diffusion with creative design, each installation resonated with both enthusiasts and casual visitors of all ages.

Blob Opera

Building on Google’s very own Blob Opera, this installation introduced visitors to AI-driven music creation.

To deliver a playful yet educational experience that demonstrated AI’s role in creative expression, we enhanced the interactivity using a Leap Motion Controller, allowing users to manipulate the opera blobs through hand gestures. Furthermore, gesture hints provided intuitive guidance for seamless interaction.

Finally, we customized the Blob Opera with a Technopolis-branded design to align with the exhibition theme.

Bias in AI

This installation tackled one of the most pressing ethical issues in artificial intelligence—bias. Creating a thought-provoking and interactive experience to spark critical conversations about inclusivity and fairness in AI systems.

To achieve this, we leveraged Stable Diffusion XL 1.0 to generate AI-created human faces. Designing an activity that prompts visitors to identify biases in the generated results. For example, recognizing that a “doctor” often appears as a white male or that a “nurse” is typically depicted as female.

Complementary experiences

Technopolis enriched the exhibition with two additional installations; 'Voice Clone' - a hands-on demonstration where visitors could clone their voices using AI, and 'Self-Driving Cars' - a simulation where participants navigated a table-top driving scenario, mimicking real-world decisions made by AI in autonomous vehicles.

These experiences complemented Far Far Away’s installations, creating a cohesive journey through the world of AI. Successfully engaging visitors about AI in an interactive, memorable way. Fostering awareness and highlighting its potential.

Thank you to our partners for trusting us with your vision and making the AI! exhibition such a success: Arinti, Raccoons & Cronos Public Services.
